Monday, February 8, 2010
o Anyone not currently in choir but would like to be next year, please see
Mr. Wilson for an audition before turning in your schedule.
o Our next FEA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 10 after school in
Room 28. We will have a speaker’s panel, so bring your questions.
o JCOWA meeting is today, February 8 at 2:30 in room 31.
o Attention all NHS members: Points have been updated. Be sure your points are
correct. See Mr. Mesko if there are any discrepancies as soon as possible.
o Congratulations to Butler’s mock trial teams at the competition on Friday.
Katie O’Leary and Claryssa Jacques both won best witness awards, and Andrew
Shoemaker won best attorney in his trial. Both teams did fantastic.
o Anyone interested in being a member of next year’s yearbook staff should stop
by Room 206 before school or during 5th period this week for an application.
o Pennies for Patients will be going on now through Friday the 19th. Boxes will
be in your first period class, and the winning class will receive a party of
their choice.
o Butler DECA students attended the District 5 Career Development Conference
Thursday hosted by Greene County Career Center. Students from area high schools
competed in various marketing related events. Placing in the top 5 for Butler
were:
5th – Josh coy, Justin Kovacs and Ryan Essex
4th – Damian Hobson, Melissa Monnin, Kellen Carter and Alex Ott
3rd – Ashlee Duncan, Ashlee Fisher, Jackie Kemper, Adam McBee and Sarah Nystrom
2nd – Jayci Tincher, Ali Romano, Monica Luft, Molly Carr and Morgen Cloud
Next up is the state conference in Columbus in March. Good job!
• The Butler Varsity wrestlers brought home first place in the Greater Western
Ohio Conference North Division at the conference championships yesterday.
Placers were:
6th – Jake Adkisson
5th – Josh Heidkamp, Trey Hafer, Marlin Ellis
3rd – Connor Spencer, Drew Bush
2nd – Jarrod Clauer, Jesse Myers
Matt Terry was the GWOC Champion at 112 pounds! Terry was also selected as GWOC
North Division Wrestler of the Year. No practice for varsity wrestlers today. JV
practice at 3:30.
• Attention Freshmen: Due to illness in the fall, Jostens has rescheduled a ring
order day for those who were absent this fall and missed the chance to order
your class ring. Your Jostens rep will be returning on Wednesday, February 17th
during lunch to take any remaining class ring orders. Please see them in the
auditorium lobby. Don’t forget to bring your order form and $50 deposit. You can
still go online to WWW.Jostens.com and design your ring. Don’t forget on
Wednesday, February 17th to see Jostens during lunch in the auditorium lobby to
order your class ring. Thank you!!!

o MVCTC Applications for the 2010-2011 school year are now available in the
Butler Guidance office. Applications are due back in guidance today!!!
o Senior boys who are in the fashion show and junior boys who are tux reps,
remember the meeting in Room 40 on Friday at 2:20.
o Today is the last day Student Aide contracts will be accepted.

o Attention Interact Members: If you would like to help set up for Pennies for
Patients, please come to Ms. Filc’s room this Thursday, February 4th after
school.
o Senior boys who are in the fashion show and junior boys who are tux reps,
remember the meeting in Room 40 on Friday at 2:20.
o Swimmers please check the met lineup for the GWOC Reserve meet this weekend
outside room 3. The bus will leave for Centerville at 4:30 pm. Those swimmers
competing at Tipp Relays, the bus will leave at 6:15 pm.

Amlin this Wednesday, February 3rd.
o Baseball conditioning will start at 3:30 on Wednesday.
o There will be an NHS meeting on Thursday, February 4th at 6:45 in the Media
Center.

o Congratulations to the JCOWA members who attended yesterday’s Quiz Bowl: Out
of 33 teams, Butler Team #5 scored the 4th highest. Team 5 consisted of Brandon
Miller, Ryan Betts and John Lewis.

o Attention Mrs. Ross’s Lunch Bunch students and Peer mediators. This is just a
reminder of the student get together today in the cafeteria during all lunch
periods. Free dessert will be provided each week.
o Coach Bush reminds all football players that read at Helke to wear their
purple shirts today.

o There will be an Octagon meeting today after school in the cafeteria. All
members are required to go.
o There will be musical chorus practice today after school in the band room.
o Baseball conditioning will start at 3:30 on Wednesday.
o Senior quotes are due by Friday, February 5, 2010 to Ashley Crews or Ashlee
Duncan by the end of the day. Superlatives will be shown around the school.
o Attention all cross country and track distance runners: there will be a brief
meeting after school today in the cafeteria with Coach White.

o The Butler JV wrestlers finished 5th out of 24 teams on Saturday in the 13th
Annual Butler JV Wrestling Classic. Placing in the top four were: Joey Coy –
4th, Marlin Ellis – 3rd, Chase Vail – 2nd and Champions were Joel Mehall and
Kendall Newell. Practice is today at 3:00.
o Congratulations to the Boys Swim Team who won their 6th Consecutive GWOC North
title this past Saturday. All Butler relays places first in the North with the
400 relay setting a new meet record. The relay team consisted of Adam Snapp,
Michael Harrington, Sam Lawhorn and Nam-Kha Tran. On Sunday, the boys placed
third out of all 16 GWOC schools, only losing to Centerville and Beavercreek.
Both the 200 and 400 free relays placed second in all of GWOC. The Girls swim
team placed a very close second to Troy in GWOC North. Troy won with 575 points,
while the Butler girls had 572 points. Congratulations to the first place medley
relay team of Jill Lawhorn, Erin Adkins, Kim Kurtz and Shelby Martin. Great job
